I cannot login via Terminal Services, get error sessions have been exceeded

Windows 2000 and 2003 by default allow the connection of two simultaneous users via Terminal Services or Remote Desktop (in addition to a user logged in at the server console). If a users gets disconnected the session may not be closed correctly, as such all the sessions may get used up resulting in this error.

Normally a session should be cleared from the server console using the Terminal Services Manager to select a session and reset it. If however you are not able to connect the server console and have telnet installed on the server you can telnet to the server and issue the following command:-

Reset Session X

Where X is the session number. Where X is the session number. If you are not sure what session is to be reset you can use the query session command.
