Using Dreamweaver with ODBC Connections : 404 error

Dreamweaver has a utility to locate ODBC connections on an ASP server. This is useful and allows easy connections to databases in the dreamweaver development environment.

Before you can use an ODBC database on the server you need to have an ODBC Connection Name, Username and Password. If you don’t this already you need to request it from the help desk.

Once you have this information you can proceed. The main issue when using dreamweaver to locate the ODBC connection is that it results in a 404 error. What dreamweaver in the ODBC search is create a temporary directory on the server which it places an JS and ASP file in. Then it makes a call to that ASP file which does the search for the ODBC connections.

With most of our sites this doesn’t work as dreamweaver creates the temporary directory in the root of the FTP site where the Root of the website is the www directory. As such when dreamweaver calls the ASP page it cannot be found (the 404 error). What you need to do resolve this is set the FTP initial directory to www which is the root of the website, not the root of the FTP site. The temporary directory will then be accessible from the website address it calls.
